Short cuts – Nº 15 : New options for converting language pairs to the standard TMX file format
In one of the tooltips, we learnt how to convert language pairs into the standard TMX format. The new Service Pack includes the following additional useful features for this conversion process. These new features give you added productivity, more efficiency and added quality control:
- Export the currently open project as a TMX file
- Options for exporting unaltered segments and segments with a minimum segment status
The option to convert the currently open project into a TMX file spares you from having to manually add any language pairs. Transit NXT automatically selects the language pairs from the working folder of the currently open project and does the conversion for you. For this, select Reference material | TMX interface | Export current project as TMX from the resource bar as shown in the following figure:
With the other new options, you can optimize on the size of your TMX file and export only the required segments without having to export all segments from the language pair(s). Your language pairs may contain protected segments (non-editable segments) or unaltered segments (segments that are exactly the same in the source and target language). You might not want to export these into the TMX files. Select or deselect the Also export protected segments or Also export unaltered segments options accordingly as shown in the following figure:
There is also now an option for selecting a minimum status for the segments to be exported into the TMX file. For example, you might just want to export segments with Translated, Spellchecked, Checked 1 and Checked 2 status and not segments with any other status because you think that they might not be useful. In order to do this, select the Minimum segment status option and then Translated from the dropdown list as shown in the following figure:
In this way, you can both optimize on the size of the exported TMX file and convert only those segments to TMX that have passed certain quality controls.Hope you find these new options useful. Do try them out! Do not hesitate to send in your feedback and do let us know if you want to learn about any other feature of Transit NXT.
